Golf New Zealand

Clifftops, dunes and alpine fairways.

A small country with an outsized collection of great golf — clifftop links above the Pacific, dune courses in the north, and alpine layouts within half an hour of Queenstown.

New Zealand golf is unusual in that the landscape does most of the talking.

You can play a clifftop course above the Pacific in the morning and a high-country layout under the Southern Alps two days later. This is our own curated collection — chosen on merit, never on commission — with honest notes on access, because some of the finest courses here are private clubs.

Good to know

  • Hole counts are stated where they are stable and verifiable. Par, course rating, tee-time policy and green fees change — confirm them with the course before you travel.
  • Some of New Zealand's finest courses are private clubs. Where access is by member introduction we say so plainly, and we never sell access we cannot secure.
  • We only publish authentic photography of a real course where we hold the rights to do so. Where we don't, you'll see our own illustrated plate instead — never an unrelated or generated photograph standing in for a real golf course.

The Icons

The courses people travel for.

18 holes

Te Awanga · Hawke's Bay

Cape Kidnappers

Fairways run out along narrow ridges that fall away 140 metres to the sea. Few courses anywhere feel this exposed, and fewer still make the drama playable. It sits above the Cape Kidnappers gannet colony, in the middle of Hawke's Bay wine country.

Resort guests and visitors

18 holes

Matauri Bay · Northland

Kauri Cliffs

Fifteen holes look out over the Pacific and six are played along the cliff edge, with the Cavalli Islands sitting offshore. It is the gentler, greener sibling to Cape Kidnappers, and the Bay of Islands is an hour away.

Resort guests and visitors

18 holes

Te Arai · Auckland / Northland

Tara Iti Golf Club

Built into genuine coastal dune country north of Auckland and consistently rated the finest course in the country. It is a private club, so access is by member introduction only — we list it because no honest account of New Zealand golf leaves it out.

Private club — introduction required

Ultra-Luxury Golf is quoted per night rather than per package, because lodges, aviation and marquee tee times vary enormously by date. Final price is always bespoke.

Every price shown is a FROM price. Final pricing depends on season, accommodation, course availability, tee times and the experiences you choose. Your confirmed price and inclusions are always provided in a personal proposal before you decide whether to proceed.

Pathways

Golf, and everything around it.

Golf + Wine

Tee off early in Hawke's Bay, Marlborough or Central Otago, then spend the afternoon at cellar doors within twenty minutes of the course.

Golf + Spa

Resorts and lodges where a treatment room, hot pools or a thermal soak is waiting when the round finishes.

Golf for Couples

One of you plays, both of you travel well. We build the day so nobody is waiting in a clubhouse car park.

Stay & Play

Sleep on site, walk to the first tee, play twice if the weather is kind. The simplest way to enjoy a great course properly.

For the non-golfing partner

While one of you plays, the other doesn't wait.

  • ·Spa treatments and thermal bathing
  • ·Cellar-door tastings and long lunches
  • ·Guided walks and scenic cruises
  • ·Art, design and heritage days in town
  • ·Cooking, photography and craft workshops
  • ·Wildlife and birdlife experiences

Let us arrange your golf

Tell us what you'd like to play.

You don't need a complete journey. Ask us for a single tee time, a Stay & Play weekend, transfers, rental clubs, a caddie or a golf holiday built entirely around you.

Every price shown is a FROM price. Final pricing depends on season, accommodation, course availability, tee times and the experiences you choose. Your confirmed price and inclusions are always provided in a personal proposal before you decide whether to proceed.

Golf added to a journey is quoted at the course's current published rates. Rounds are never quietly absorbed into an existing package — you will always see golf identified as its own line in your proposal.

Editorial independence

Our golf editorial is independent. We hold no commercial arrangement, commission agreement or discount with any golf course, resort or golf-tour supplier at this time, and we do not claim one. If that ever changes, any paid placement will be clearly labelled and editorial rankings will stay independent of it.
