  • What to book ahead

Hobbiton, any Māori cultural evening, and summer accommodation in Rotorua and Taupō.

  • Longest driving day

Day 5 — around 3 hours 45 minutes back to Auckland.

  • Travelling with children

This route is one of the easiest in the country for kids: short legs, hot pools, and Hobbiton.

  • Where to add a night

Add a second night in Taupō for Tongariro, or a night on the Coromandel between Auckland and Rotorua.

  • Costs
